Artist Statement: This body of work explores the shifting nature of identity through drawing and photography. Familiar forms are transformed into emotional and psychological landscapes where beauty, vulnerability, and uncertainty coexist. In The Morph series, blurred and dissolving balloon forms become temporary bodies— constantly changing, never fully fixed. Through movement and abstraction, the work reflects the fluid nature of selfhood and the ways identity is shaped through experience, relationships, and time. The drawings extend this exploration through carefully rendered forms that balance softness with tension. In White Dove, the image of a bird resting on a hand evokes care, trust, fragility, and the desire for connection. Across both mediums, the work examines femininity, relationships, and the ongoing process of becoming, inviting viewers to find meaning within ambiguity rather than certainty.

About the Artist: Jihye Sage Baek is a Korean artist based in New York working across photography and drawing. Her practice explores identity, emotional states, and the shifting dynamics of intimacy through symbolic forms and familiar objects. Working with chromogenic color prints, charcoal, and graphite, Baek creates images that exist between beauty and unease. Recurring motifs such as temporary forms, natural elements, and bodily references become vehicles for exploring vulnerability, desire, care, and transformation. Drawn to moments where attraction and discomfort coexist, she uses ambiguity as a formal strategy, allowing images to remain intimate, unresolved, and psychologically open.
