About the Artist: Sungmin Jang is a contemporary artist whose practice centers on themes of memory, time, healing, and human connection. Sungmin Jang earned her master degree from Sungshin Women’s University and has participated in the Palm Beach Art Fair and an invited exhibition hosted by the City of Glendale. Her works are held in the permanent collections of residential developments, hospitals, and commercial institutions throughout Korea.

At the heart of Jang’s practice is her distinctive use of thread and yarn, which she transforms into a powerful visual language. For the artist, thread is far more than a material; it is a symbol of life’s interconnectedness, carrying the accumulated memories, emotions, and experiences of individuals and communities. Through the repetitive processes of winding, layering, and weaving, Jang creates works that evoke both the fragility and resilience of human existence.

Her intricate compositions explore the cycles of loss and renewal, suffering and healing, while reflecting on the relationships that bind people together across time and place. Drawing upon the historical associations of textile-making and women’s labor, Jang reinterprets traditional forms of craftsmanship through a contemporary lens.
