Rosalind Tallmadge: Glissando Image
Glissando, 2023, Handcut lepidolite stone on silkscreen fabric, aluminum stretcher, 22 x 20 in

About The Artist: Rosalind Tallmadge incorporates a blend of materials, including glass beads, pumice, volcanic ash, and metal leaf, in hybrid textile paintings that explore femininity, beauty, and the politics of fashion. Tallmadge recontextualizes monochrome and color field painting, historically male-dominated Formalist movements, by using sequin fabrics as her canvases, a material traditionally coded feminine. Eye-catching materials like gold leaf and mica flakes applied to the sequin fabrics create dazzling, tactile paintings that invite a meditative experience. Tallmadge received a BFA in painting and BA in art history from Indiana University and an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art.
